The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority offers a specialized education program to teach students in grades four through six about trade at the Port of Vancouver. Focusing on the importance of trade and the role of the port in facilitating it, this program covers:
- What a port is
- The five business sectors at the port
- Imports, exports, and international trade
- Sustainability at the port
Supporting British Columbia’s redesigned curriculum
This interactive program is designed to support curriculum guidelines as outlined by the British Columbia Ministry of Education. Students will learn about Canada’s largest and most diversified cargo-handling port through:
- Hands-on learning through doing, touching, watching, hearing, and reading
- Activities that promote reflection, inquiry, critical thinking, and creativity
- Individual and group communication through actions, words, and pictures
Field trip to the Discovery Centre
A facilitated 90-minute in-person field trip experience for grades four, five, and six classes at our Port of Vancouver Discovery Centre. Located in Canada Place, the Discover Centre is a free interactive exhibit that teaches visitors about the port’s history, operations, and trade.
Virtual field trip
Guided virtual field trips are available for grades four, five, and six classes. Offered in two 60-minute parts, these virtual field trips are offered via Microsoft Teams or Zoom and are led by our community outreach coordinator.
